Minister of State for Defence Visits Sokoto After Tragic Airstrike, Pledges Support for Victims

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has visited Sokoto State to offer condolences and support following a tragic airstrike in Gidan Bisa and Runtuwa villages, which claimed the lives of innocent civilians. The Federal Government has assured the public of a comprehensive investigation into the incident, aiming to uncover its cause and deliver justice to the affected families.

During his visit, the Minister conveys President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s deep concern over the incident and reaffirmes the administration’s commitment to preventing such occurrences in the future. As a gesture of immediate support, Matawalle makes a personal donation of ₦10 million to assist the families of the victims, reflecting the Federal Government’s resolve to provide both short- and long-term aid.

Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State expresses gratitude for the visit and the Federal Government’s prompt response. While commending the military and security agencies for their tireless efforts in combating banditry, the Governor emphasizes the need for improved intelligence and surveillance to prevent similar tragedies.

“Sokoto State remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety of all citizens. We deeply appreciate the President’s ongoing support in strengthening security measures across the state,” Governor Aliyu states. He urges all stakeholders to collaborate in creating a safer environment for residents.

The Governor also offers prayers for the victims, asking Allah to grant them eternal peace and to comfort their families. He calls for collective efforts to prevent future incidents and ensure peace and stability in the region.

This incident underscores the critical need for heightened vigilance and effective strategies in addressing insecurity across the country.
