Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, has approved the implementation of the new N70,000 minimum wage for public servants in the state. This announcement was made in a press release issued today, Sunday, January 26, 2025.

The new salary structure, which aligns with the recently revised national minimum wage set by the Federal Government, will take effect starting tomorrow, Monday, January 27, 2025. Governor Aliyu affirms that the new wage will benefit state civil servants as well as employees at the Local Government Area Councils across Sokoto State.

“This approval fulfills the promise I made as the Governor of this state and underscores our commitment to improving the welfare of public servants,” Governor Aliyu states.

He calls on civil servants to reciprocate this gesture by demonstrating renewed dedication to their duties, adding that his administration remains worker-friendly with consistent payment of salaries. To this end, he confirms that salaries will continue to be processed from the 19th to the 22nd of every month.

In a further move to address workers’ welfare, Governor Aliyu reveals that the State Government has allocated N500 million to clear outstanding gratuities owed to retirees. Additionally, an extra N300 million will be disbursed monthly to settle the entitlements of retirees who exited the service from 2023 to date.

The Governor’s announcement has been widely received as a significant step toward improving the livelihoods of workers and ensuring a more sustainable payment structure for public servants in Sokoto State.
