Preparation underway for Argungu International Fishing Festival

The Kebbi State Government has announced February 11 to 14 as the dates for the 2026 Argungu International Fishing Festival. The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Mera, disclosed this after a meeting with the state festival committee and the emirate’s local organising committee in Birnin Kebbi.

The Emir highlighted the festival’s historical roots as a peace initiative and its recognition by UNESCO as an international cultural event, noting that it has also served as a symbol of national unity.

Kebbi State Deputy Governor and chairman of the festival committee, Senator Umar Tafida, said preparations are in top gear, with subcommittees already constituted and arrangements made to ensure a successful event expected to attract local and international dignitaries.
