Bishop of Anglican church in Anambra State, Reverend Owen Chidozie Nwokolo and his continuous blackmail against Governor Willie Obiano has led residents of the state to protest. Daily sun reports that the bishop engages in feeding the public with false information which were aimed at slandering Governor Obiano and igniting war in the state, as such residents of Anambra grouped themselves on Wednesday into Concerned Christian and Non-Christian Citizens of Anambra State and embarked on a peaceful demonstration to the state’s police headquarters in Awka to tender a protest letter to the police Commissioner, Garba Baba Umar. The group’s protest letter carried the signatures of the Coordinator, Ernest Anafonye and its Secretary, Onyedika Nwosu. The letter read, “The said Bishop Owen Chidozie Nwokolo deliberately, with the intention to incite the public, has taken to both the traditional and social media, to spread false rumours claiming that Governor Willie Obiano is marginalizing members of the Anglican Church in Anambra State.” The protesting groups encompass men and women bearing placards of various inscriptions, amongst which was, “Bishop Owen Nwokolo is a politician”. They accused the bishop of spending resources to incite the Anglican congregation and public against the government of Anambra, warning that such acts were capable of instigating religious war, which in turn could lead to breakdown of law and order in the state. Reacting, Anglican Dioceses in Nigeria after a meeting said the demonstration in Awka against Bishop Nwokolo was not by Anglicans but by hirelings. The church said, “Who called themselves concerned Christians and non-christian citizens. They are bent on tarnishing the image of the Anglican Church, Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Nwokolo and the Diocese on the Niger, who are the rightful owner of the land at Nkisi Road, G.R.A, Onitsha, where there is Bishop Crowther Memorial Primary School, since 1926, with a duly registered document in 1927.” The Police Commissioner said that they were not neglectful of the crisis between Anglican Church and Anambra government, with refer to a property in Onitsha, which both parties claim ownership. He assured protesters that the police will take necessary action, enjoining the youths to maintain peace.
