Enugu: Police Arrest 2 Suspects for Murder of Catholic Priest

The Enugu State Police Command has on Wednesday arrested two suspects in connection with the abduction and killing of a catholic priest in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Reverend Father Clement Ugwu.

The Police Command revealed the information on Wednesday to Punch news, stating that operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit of the Enugu command made the arrest of the leader in Abuja, where he had relocated with his family, and second in command of the four-man gang who kidnapped and killed the catholic cleric.

The source revealed that the suspects were a six-man-gang but only four participated in the Abduction and murder of Father Ugwu.

Enugu Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the arrest of the suspects on telephone.

Amaraizu said the suspect will be paraded alongside other suspects today, adding that the other two were responsible for shooting the priest and using his ATM card for withdrawals.

The late priest was abducted in his Parish at Saint Mark Catholic Church, Obinofia Ndiuno in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State on March 13, 2019, at about 9 p.m shortly after he returned from a meeting.

Giantability News gathered that on the day of his abduction, four gunmen attacked the priest, shot and hijacked him in his blue Prado Jeep.

After some days, they were said to have used the priest’s Automated Teller Machine card to make withdrawals from his account.

Efforts geared at rescuing the priest failed as search parties was initiated by his parishioners in collaboration with the community and a week after his abduction, the body of Father Ugwu was found decomposing in a bush.
