Dele Farotimi, a human rights lawyer and activist, has regained his freedom after meeting the bail conditions set by a Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti.

Farotimi’s release was disclosed by politician and activist Omoyele Sowore, who posted on X that the embattled activist lawyer was no longer being held at the prison yards in Ekiti State.

Farotimi was arrested earlier this month for allegedly defaming Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti.

The court granted Farotimi a N30 million bail, with conditions that included two sureties, one of whom must be a property owner, and the submission of his passport. Additionally, Farotimi was prohibited from granting media interviews once released.

After his release, Farotimi addressed his supporters, reaffirming his commitment to truth in his fight for justice. He expressed gratitude to Nigerians for speaking up for him and thanked his associates for their support during his detention.
