PDP Condemns Attempted Assassination of Kaduna Central Senator, Lawal Adamu Usman
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed strong condemnation over the alleged attempted assassination of Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District. The incident, described as a grave threat to democracy, has sparked outrage among party supporters and leaders in the Northwest region.
In a statement issued by Engr. Sanusi Sarki, spokesperson for the PDP Supporters Group in the Northwest, the incident was labeled as a “political permutation taken too far” aimed at silencing a key political figure.
“This act is nothing short of an attempt to murder democracy in broad daylight. Senator Lawal Adamu Usman is a respected leader who has brought significant development and relief to his constituents. His achievements and rising popularity have apparently made certain individuals uncomfortable, prompting them to resort to such desperate measures,” Sarki states.
The PDP supporters called on security agencies, including the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS), to launch an immediate and thorough investigation to uncover the perpetrators of the attack.
“We demand urgent action from the security agencies to fish out those behind this heinous act. The masterminds of this failed attempt on the Senator’s life must be dealt with decisively to deter such actions in the future,” Sarki adds.
The group also urges political leaders across the country to remain vigilant and prioritize their safety while performing their constitutional duties.
“We call on political representatives to be security-conscious. These incidents are unacceptable in a democratic society, and we must all stand against such threats to our democracy,” Sarki advises.
The PDP Supporters Group further appeals to the party’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, to ensure a party-led investigation into the matter.
“We urge the Acting National Chairman to take immediate steps to unravel those behind this plan and expose their malicious intentions against the only active and popular Senator in the State,” the statement reads.
The PDP describes Senator Usman as an invaluable leader in Kaduna Central, whose contributions to the State and the nation must not be undermined by acts of violence and intimidation.
