PLATEAU ATTACK: Pastor, 7 others killed

Pastor of Church of Christ in Nation (COCIN), Rev Adamu Gyang Wurim, his family and 3 others were killed by suspected herdsmen in Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State on Wednesday, August 29th, 2018.

Daily post reports that the pastor and his family were resting in their house when their building was surrounded and set on fire by suspected herdsmen.

The suspects also killed two persons close to the pastor’s house and injured a woman at Dorowa village, who was taken to the hospital and is currently receiving treatment.

The spokesperson of the state police command, Terna Tyopev, confirmed the incident to journalists. He said the attackers hit the community in the early hours of Wednesday.

“When we received information that Abonong and Zayit communities were being attacked, we quickly mobilised and rushed to the affected areas. But, when we approached the areas, the attackers sighted us and took to their heels. When we eventually entered the attacked settlements, we found that eight persons were killed, 95 houses burnt, while 310 cows were stolen,” Tyopey said.

“As we speak, security has been beefed up in the areas to forestall further attacks,” he added.

A relative of the burnt pastor, Gyang Nuhu, shared photos of the deceased on his Facebook page.

He said; ”I woke up this morning only to see missed calls from mum and my elder brother. On calling my brother back he told me that uncle, his wife and children were murdered yesterday in cold blood and burnt to ashes in his home (foron in barkin ladi) by Fulani herdsmen. Rev. Adamu Gyang Wurim may your soul and those of the departed rest in the Bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ Amen.  On this note I want to call on the government of the day to please intervene.”
